In the movie “Up” do you remember when they were laying outside on the grass hill together gazing up at the sky and watching the clouds pass by as different shapes of things? We’ve all done that at one point or another in our lives, the colorful abstract paintings of Esther McCord are reminiscent of that feeling. They are full of vibrant life and color. If you are in need of some colorful abstract landscape paintings for your home look no further, she has both prints and originals of her work on her website below and be sure to follow her on Instagram if you’re not yet already.
Can you tell us about your work, when did you start creating?
I became interested in art my junior year of high school. I decided then, that I’d become an art teacher. So, I guess you could say, I’ve been creating ever since. I graduated with a BA in fine arts in 2007. I taught elementary art from 2008-2016.
How would you describe your home decor style?
I’m not much of a decorator, but I try to achieve the eclectic look.
What inspires you when you get in a rut?
Watching art tutorial videos, but mainly being out in nature does the trick.
What colors do you enjoy using in your art the most and why?
Pinks and teal. They’re the perfect balance between cools and warms.
Where do you create most of your work, what is your space like?
I have a 2400 sq foot studio, but I have reserved an office space to specifically do my creating. It’s my organized chaos space for sure! I sometimes feel like creating in my home, so I allow myself to paint while sitting on my couch.
